Assignment 1 Leisure Definition: Michael Niehaus

This is an image of different number of people in a shopping mall. These people represent the different things you can do for leisure.   As you can see, there are some people who are with their spouse, friends, or even by themselves.  This activity of enjoying someone’s company or shopping can be a perfect example of leisure.

The meaning of this image does not need be taken strictly as shopping.  There are many things that can be leisure in this photo.  Spending time with someone that is special to you or someone that you do not get to see a lot of could an example of leisure in this photo.  People can enter a mall with the intention not to buy anything rather just enjoy their free time and the experiences with others.  However, this can also be leisure for people who enter the mall expecting to leave with new items because they wanted to use their free time for shopping and volunteered to enter the mall.  As long as these people are enjoying their free time then they taking part in leisurely activities.

I believe there is a wide range of the definition for leisure.  If someone users their free time the way they want to then it could be defined as leisure.  If they enjoy the activity of the people they are with then it is even more rewarding.  As long as you are happy with they way you spent your time then you are participating in leisure.
