Assignment #3 Critical Thinking

Leisure is a hard concept to define. After learning a lot in our class and with the research our group did on our specific organizations, we have finally come up with a definition of leisure. Leisure is freedom from one’s everyday responsibilities and duties. Whether it be out on a private outing at the golf course or watching a sporting event, each organization we researched offered a different aspect of leisure. The multitude of agencies that our group researched was non-profit organizations, sports management, private membership club, Army Co., and campus recreation. Specifically the agencies that we examined were the University YMCA, Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, Champaign Country Club, the ARC, and ROTC. We will further examine their relationships to one another throughout our blog.

The University YMCA has many goals and objectives. It is unlike other YMCAs that exist to provide a recreation center for people in the community. Rather, the University YMCA exists to “engage people in service, reflection, and action.” It also strives to challenge people and instill in them ideals and ethical principles that will serve them well for the rest of their lives. Last, it encourages students to participate in a wide variety of social, political and educational experiences. I truly believe that it exists for a good cause and is serving the community well. It is run by the university but does not receive any money from the university budget. Therefore, it is a non-profit organization. All of its funding is from private donation, which is not a good thing during these economic struggles.
There are many people served by the “Y.” It serves the whole student body and even the faculty of the University of Illinois. I personally believe that the international students are helped out the most by this because they are given a social network when they come in not knowing anybody, as well as a place to hang out. The local, non-student community is also served with certain programs. There are many effective programs offered by the University YMCA. “Dump and Run” is one of the programs that is a key contributor to the university. $25,000 was raised by collecting what would be people’s garbage in the spring (mostly old furniture) and reselling it to students in the fall when they return to school. There are also seminars offered on world issues and many service opportunities around the country and world. I feel like these programs are very useful to the people they are being directed toward.

The University Y has many strengths as a leisure service provider. It does a very good job of offering a social place for people to gather and learn about worldly issues. It also allows people to escape from the work world and their homework by offering them service opportunities in the community and around the world. This is a very good thing and it does a great job of it. The Y has weaknesses as well, though. They do not provide a gym, workout center, or pool like the other YMCAs around the country do. It would be a much better leisure service provider if it did. I believe that the organization does fulfill its goals. One example is Alternative Spring Break, a program where participants travel across the country during their spring or winter breaks and run fundraisers and perform manual work. This is a direct fulfillment of the goals listed earlier.

The Arc had many purposes which made them a great organization. The ARC is a center that provides wellness to students and the community. They do this through activities, workshops, and providing a facility for individuals to do their daily workouts. All these different services they provide all help to make the members happier and allow them to also be healthier. The organization is funded in two different ways. The undergraduate students are charged a fee automatically to the university account and the community can purchase a membership at a very low price with monthly payments. If a student does not want to use the facility they can cancel the charge from their account. Also, a member can bring a guest for a day with a small fee.

The ARC serves many individuals and groups. Like I mentioned earlier all undergraduates and community members are welcome to join. The ARC also serves groups such as intramural sports teams. They have basketball, volleyball, and also host tournaments such as table tennis and badminton. They women’s swimming and water polo teams also practice at the ARC new pool which they have two of one indoor and the other outdoor. The key components that set the ARC apart from other faculties are there workshops. They have a kitchen area that has a mirror on the ceiling allowing individuals to see what is being made. One of the classes they have provided is how to make a meal on a budget. They also have a wellness center that runs a series of different classes throughout the semester which included a laugher coarse last semester.

I believe the size and the range of different activities and information the ARC provides gives them major strengths. The cost for an undergraduate is so inexpensive it is available to nearly every student. The amount of different activates that can be done at the ARC makes it a great place for nearly everyone with a rock climbing wall or even a place to relax in between classes with a place to get food and converse with friends. As of weaknesses sometimes some of the areas can become pretty full but this is expected at sometimes with the large amount of clients they serve. This organization does a great job of fulfilling its purpose. At any given time the ARC has tons of individuals there enjoying oneself while doing something helpful or learning new skills to add to ones wellness.

Champaign Country Club provides a place for leisure and relaxation for
the members of the Champaign community. The objective is to provide a place
for a family or an individual to relax and enjoy the different amenities that they
provide, such as, tennis courts, a pool and the golf course. Its goal is to
provide a place where its members can feel isolated with their family or friends
in an area where many people can enjoy. The members of the country club who
pay a yearly membership fee fund the agency. Each member or family must
pay fee that helps pay for repairs on the ground and salaries of the staff, there
are also many other things that are paid for from the payments of the
members.

The country club itself serves a select number of people. However,
anyone who lives in the Champaign community is eligible to become a
member. The main elements that set this agency apart from others are the
different activities they can provide. It is not just a place for people to play
golf. It is a place to play tennis, swim, exercise and enjoy social activities.
Also, the privacy the country club provides sets it apart from most agencies.

There are many strengths to this private membership club. The main
strengths are that it can be for anyone, from individuals, families or companies.
It also provides many different types of leisure from relaxation to competition.
The weakness could be that it is not open to the public and not everyone has
access to their facilities. I think the organization does fulfill its purpose by
providing different services for all types of people. A family can go to the pool
and enjoy a nice relaxing day by it. Also, a group of can be competitive on the
golf course, the club covers all types of peoples wants and needs.

My agency was the Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC). My main topic was Armed Forces morale, welfare, and recreation units. I choose it because I wanted to learn more about how the ROTC worked as an organization. The goals of my agency are to provide people with leadership and other important qualities that will help throughout your career and your life. If you join the ROTC you also get first hand experience with a job in the armed forces branch that you choose. So you can use it as a chance to learn and gain experience for a future job and that will help you out on your resume and effect whether or not you get the job. The ROTC is also a good thing to have on a resume because you learn a lot of leadership experiences in the ROTC.

The federal government funds the ROTC. The individuals served by this agency are college kids but they fight for our country so it serves the whole United States. One thing that sets the ROTC apart and makes it special is that it helps college kids pay for their schooling but doesn’t take away their social life and they still get the college experience. One good thing the ROTC does is provided the enlistees with good leadership and qualities to help them out in their future jobs and careers. The only weakness I could think of is that it might take away a little bit from your college experience and you could die when you serve your term. The organization does a very good job of filling their goals and fulfills their purpose to help with college kids.

The ROTC is similar to a couple of other recreation sponsoring organizations. One that I think it is a lot a like is a nonprofit organization. I think this because the purpose of both is not to make money it is to help people. So both are for the wellbeing of people that they affect so that makes them alike. They are also both federally funded. Another organization I think is similar to mine is employee service and recreation programs. I think this because both have special things that you can only do if you are a part of their organization or an employee. They both give you special benefits for working with their company or organization. It also is similar to a private membership organization because of those same reasons to.

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics was one of the leisure service providers our group looked into. The type of agency it reflected was the sports management industry. The goals and objectives of DIA, was to provide an opportunity for students, fans, and athletes to enjoy sports in an entertainment setting. The way they went about this, was to offer events such as football, basketball, and other sporting events that fans could go to. The event coordinating of these sport outings would be organized by the DIA, and everything from fan giveaways to before and after game day events would be run by the DIA. DIA has funding from multiple sources, which include students, alums, season ticket holders, fans, and contributions from the I Fund. The great thing about DIA is that it is open to all demographics because of the vast range of events DIA offers. The key program elements that set this agency apart from the others, was their ability to coordinate sporting events from football to basketball that have kept fan loyalty at a high level.

The strengths of this agency is the overwhelming amount of support from students and fans that will keep DIA stable, coming from an economic standpoint. The diversity of the agency lets them provide multiple opportunities away from sports, such as charity events. The reason diversity and fan loyalty are strengths are because it lets the agency be versatile in terms of what services they are providing as well as the longevity for the agency to keep running. Customer satisfaction and accommodations of students and fans alike also improve the fan loyalty. Although, the sports industry is not recession proof, the popularity of sports gives the upper hand of this agency in an economic standpoint. The weakness of the agency is that there is a narrow focus of people, therefore only providing opportunities for a minimum amount of people. Other agencies are more open to a larger demographic, although the sports industry is on the rise in terms of woman as well. Another weakness of this industry is the high demand of jobs with a minimum amount of openings. The competition for these jobs also does not bode well in terms of work opportunity for incoming graduates. Those are the strength and weaknesses of sports agencies.

There are many similarities and differences with sports agency compared to other industries such as campus recreation and private membership organizations. Some similarities are that all of them offer leisure service for the public. In terms of the specific one’s I have mentioned, they are all similar in the type of leisure that is provided. All of them have a hand in sports, whether it is campus recreation and the services they provide in their facility to a private golf course. They all find leisure in sports related activities. Some differences that these agencies share is the demographic these agencies appeal to. The private membership organizations tend to be more on the side of the rich, because they offer a fee to join their organization. Campus Recreation has a broader field of people, being open to the general public and offering numerous services that appeal to different genders and age groups. The sports agency generally offers sports related events, therefore if you are not a fan of sports or the entertainment surrounding a sports event, then this may not be the place to spend your leisure. In terms of the responsibility DIA has to serve the public, I believe the organization fulfills its goals. The reason being is if you walk around the University of Illinois on any game day, you will see the vast amount of fan support and events that are going on within the game. One of the largest events held at UIUC is Midnight Madness which DIA has organized. The purpose of a sports management organization is to offer sporting events for the general public in a entertaining way, which DIA has done a well job of throughout the years.

Each agency, although different in many aspects, shared some similar qualities. They all demonstrated some aspect of leisure. Another quality they shared was that each organization existed to serve a certain group of people, whether it be fans cheering on their favorite team, or people in need around the country. Although each organization served people, the specific demographic were not the same. Each agency focused on a different group of people. For example, the campus recreation agency and DIA focused mainly on students, while private membership club focused on people who want to be isolated, and be among the select few. The YMCA focused on students and faculty; however the ROTC focused on people who wanted to serve their country and make a difference. All in all, although we came up with our definition of leisure to be freedom from our daily responsibilities, the concept of leisure can never fully be developed. With our examination of the agencies we researched, we feel confident in what leisure means to us.

Leisure Service Delivery Assignment 2: Jon Horath horath1

INTRODUCTION
The type of agency i choose for assignment 2 was the armed forces morale, welfare, and recreation units. I choose to go from there and pick the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). I choose this because i think it is really cool whenever people do the military i think it shows a lot about a person because I'm not going to lie i don't have the guts to join the army or any armed forces. So i took this as a opportunity to learn a little bit more about the ROTC and the armed forces to see what people really do for our country.

BACKGROUND

The ROTC began in 1862 as part of a college land grant. Part of the governments requirement for the schools to have the land grant they would have to add military tactics to their curriculum. The land grant was only for Norwich University. Then in 1916 Woodrow Wilson signed it to all colleges in the National Defense Act. The ROTC is the largest branch of the military. You can join either the army, navy, air force, or coast guard when you join the ROTC. The ROTC exist for college students to try to encourage college students to join a branch of the military.

Employment

Today the ROTC has over 20,000 cadets. There are many reasons why a person would want to join the ROTC. It gives you tuition assistance so it can help you pay for your college and make college more affordable for you. It also can give you a lot of leadership experience and that is always good to add on a job resume. It can help you if you with your career because they have a lot of different jobs in the armed forces so you could find something that would help you out with your job in the future. It helps you if you want to be in the military for a career because right out of college you are at a management level.

CURRENT TRENDS/ISSUES

With the way things are going with the economy and how high college prices are it is predicted that there will be an increase in the number of people that join the ROTC. More people will join because of the tuition assistance the ROTC offers to students. An issue that happened in the past is that Harvard and Columbia banned he ROTC for a reason that many sites said different reasons but the were forced to be returned to campus. Another kind of current issue is just an issue with the army which is the don't ask don't tell policy. Which is pretty much exactly what it says when you are talking about homosexual people in the army don't ask if they are and the won't tell.

Definition of Leisure

This is a hard one to answer but i see the ROTC's definition of leisure to be a more productive one. I think it is more of do something like working out and getting into shape and helping your country. But another thing the ROTC seems to say a lot is that it doesn't take away from your college experience and you are still a normal student and go through the same experiences. So therefore it would be pretty much the same as a normal persons definition of leisure.

SYNOPSIS

I think that the ROTC is a very great thing for this country. I definitely look up to anyone who joins the ROTC. I think it would be a great experience to do it would really bring a lot of pride to you and your country if you join the ROTC in any branch and you are a hero to your country. I definitely would encourage people to join the ROTC although i do not think i think it is for me. It is always such a good thing that would teach you a lot of transferable skills that would really help you throughout not only your career but your life. It would be a great thing to experience and learn from. It would be a good thing to join if you need help to pay for college and especially if you already wanted to join the army then you could get college paid for and join the army and when you get out you are right into a management position what more could you ask for? I think that the ROTC is a great thing for our country and will give men and women more reasons to join the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Leisure Service Delivery Assignment 2- Nicholas Lazzara

INTRODUCTION

ymca-montage-01.jpg

I made the trip over the University YMCA on Wright St. in Champaign. The University YMCA is a nonprofit organization that is maintained by donations provided by private individuals. This is not your ordinary local "Y" though; there is no gym or pool in the building. Rather, this YMCA's motto is "Engaging people in service, reflection, and action."

BACKGROUND

end1.jpg

The University YMCA was established in 1873, just 6 years after the University was opened. It was originally intended to be a religious organization for the students and has had 5 different locations until it finally settled at the corner of Wright and Chalmers in 1938. It actually served as the first dormitory on campus in 1908! The university took over the reigns of the YMCA in 1932. Now the Y serves as a place that fosters to the student body by offering guidance to international students, sponsors service opportunities, and promotes a community feel among the student body.

EMPLOYMENT

MikeD.jpg

The YMCA is run by a board of governors (33 people) who oversee the budget, policies, personnel, and programs. There is also a board of trustees who are from all over the country
that oversee the endowment, which makes up about 20% of the annual operating budget; these people are mostly former Illinois students and friends of the YMCA. After speaking with Mike Doyle, the Executive Director, I was informed that there were not employment opportunities for students but rather there were volunteer opportunities. Volunteering, he told me, was a great way to do some good in the community as well as bolster your resume for future employment, not to mention it builds your character. "Volunteers are always welcome," he added.

CURRENT TRENDS

There has been an increase in volunteering in recent years. People have really come out in numbers for the big service opportunities offered by the Y and made a difference in the area. One of the issues is that there has been a decline in the YMCA's private donations because of the state of the economy. The YMCA still remains an institution for international students, though.

LEISURE

The University YMCA offers an escape from the hectic world of homework and jobs by offering leisure to students. By leisure, I mean a safe haven where one can learn about local and global issues and can go out and make a difference in the world. There are weekly forums about issues such as Pakistan vs. India to ideas about how we can solve the problem with the current economy. They also help students meet others with similar interests by encouraging people to join in YMCA activities. The main benefit is the volunteering aspect it offers to students.

SYNOPSIS

before1.jpg

There are many pros about a career with the YMCA. One of them is that you are doing it out of the goodness of your heart, since it will be without pay. By working with the University Y, you can physically make a difference in the community. For example, they sponsor a "Dump and Run" donation drive in which they collect nearly any reusable items that people would normally throw out during their "spring cleaning." It reduces litter, saves space in landfills, and it raised over $25,000 for the university this year when the items were sold to students at the beginning of the school year. Students were able to buy expensive furniture and items for very cheap prices. One of the cons would obviously be the fact that you would need another form of income while working with the YMCA. This organization definitely fits into the leisure service delivery system because it provides its users with opportunities to relax, be social, and be enlightened with worldly knowledge.

Leisure Service Delivery Assignment #2-Michael Niehaus

INTRODUCTION

I visited Champaign Country Club, which is a private membership club located not to far from campus on Prospect Avenue. Though it does not cater to the student body it has been a strong pillar in the Champaign Community. The challenging 6500 yards, par 71, 18-hole golf course provides plenty of recreation and leisure for its members. However, golf is not the only activity at the club it has several other amenities that the whole family can enjoy.

BACKGROUND

The country club was established in 1904 for the citizens of Champaign. While most of the facilities have changed, some things remain the same or still have a classical look. Located on the course are many tall and mature trees that have been around since the club was founded. The 37,000 square foot clubhouse has nice red brick on the outside but the inside still has a classical look and feel.

EMPLOYMENT

I talked with the General Manager Chris Collins about the facilities at Champaign Country Club. There are many different services that are provided and they require a good amount of employees. During the summer they need lifeguards, mowers and chefs. The employees get certain golf privileges during the weekdays. Since summer is winding down, they are not hiring for certain positions. However, they accept applications for bartenders and waiters all year round because the restaurant is open during all seasons.

CURRENT TRENDS

With the current economic situation they have not seen an increase membership. Currently they have around 600 members. However, the club has seen the use of the facilities go up. There has been more use with the pool, tennis courts and practice range. The use of the golf course itself has been mostly the same because members have the same easy access they always have.

LEISURE

The Champaign Country Club is used by families, individuals and businesses, however; the main purpose of it is for leisure. Whenever someone steps foot on the grounds of the club they want to enjoy themselves. They can relax and be stress free in many different ways; a family can enjoy themselves at the pool, play a challenging game of tennis, enjoy a nice exercise in the workout room, or refine your golf game on the practice range. The two most used amenities are the golf course and the banquet hall. The hall can be used for wedding receptions and seat up to 400 people.

SYNOPSIS

Champaign Country Club is not just a place for people to play golf. It is a place for people to socialize, relax, and be active. It is a great place for people to enjoy other people’s company with the huge banquet room. People can enjoy their time at the pool or be active by playing golf, tennis or working out. This country club caters to almost everyone’s wants: family, competition and relaxation. After visiting the country club and seeing how well everything is kept, I believe this would be a good profession to go in to. However, the only con I see is that it is only for private members, so the member must take advantage of the opportunities that are given to them. If the club is full active members then I believe this would be a great environment to work in.

Leisure Delivery System Assignment 2: Jonathan Lee

Introduction:

Whether it be tailgating around the parking lot near Memorial Stadium hours before kickoff, or filling up the stadiums and fields with orange and blue to watch your fighting Illini teams crush their opponents; there is no question the amount of fun and entertainment that surrounds these athletic venues. The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has a footprint on any sporting event here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. These athletic events provide fans with a getaway from their everyday life, where the only thing that’s on their minds is bringing home a W. The clock strikes seven, you can hear the thunderous chants by the cheering fans, and that can only mean one thing, GAMETIME!

Background on the Business:

I had the opportunity to meet with the Assistant Ticketing Manager with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, Allison L. Myles, who provided me with an in-depth look at what goes on around the Athletic offices here at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. DIA, is in charge of managing 13 different sports here on campus, and making sure everything from ticket sales, promotions, sponsorships, and much more are completed come game day. Every bit of detail from the numbering of seats at Memorial Stadium to the entertainment that surrounds the athletic venues on game nights, DIA has had a handprint on. The DIA is comprised of 29 different sectors from basketball and football departments, to corporate relations and marketing sectors, DIA has it all. There are six different building that DIA operates under. They are the Bielfeldt Athletic Administration Building, the Uben Practice facilities, Memorial Stadium, Assembly Hall, Atkins Tennis Center, and Demirjian Golf Practice Facility. You can find these locations on First and Fourth Street, Wright Street, and St.Mary’s road. In order for all sectors to run efficiently, there needs to be an overall command of each area, hence directors and coaches. The President of the Athletic staff is B.Joseph White, followed by Chancellor Richard Herman and Athletics Director Ron Guenter. DIA’s mission statement is “to have the highest quality athletic program in all sports that allows the University of Illinois teams to compete for championships in the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association” Their level of criteria for excellence are integrity academic performance, balanced budget, championship program, gender and ethnic equity, facilities, caring community.

Employment:

Employment opportunities within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics are very slim with everyone vying for a position to work in the sports industry. The high level of interest from students, especially in the RST major of sports management, makes for a part time job difficult, with a full-time job being even more of a long shot. The best way to get your foot in the door with DIA is to build up your resume to make yourself marketable to the head personal. Workers will generally start out under ticket sales or for the marketing department, and work their way up the ladder. The turnover rate is very low within this industry, but the current trends within this industry can be a good sign for the future. Once you get your foot in the door, the best thing to do is wait from that point on. Waiting for an opening position, while working hard is the best way to climb the ladder. The ladder can move from a student worker, to a full-time employee, to an assistant, to a manager with time.

Current Issues and Trends:

The future looks bright from all aspects of leisure and business for the DIA here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ticket sales have been booming for football and basketball games, with the football team reaching the 2008 Rose Bowl and the basketball squad having one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, fans are excited about the future here at Urbana-Champaign, which has definitely been shown from a business standpoint. Other notable accomplishment that has helped DIA has been the achievements from the Men’s tennis team and gymnastics, along with women’s cross-country. The only issue that DIA has had to face has been not being able to accommodate all basketball season ticket holders to the seats that they would like, as renewal rates are high, therefore leading to a low turnover in new seats available. When Speaking of the renewal rates for season basketball tickets, this is what Ms Myles had to say about them. “The economy plays a small part in renewals, larger factor is more about sense of ownership over particular seats, about being involved, and about having an identity with the school. The leisure movement for DIA has been expanding, with fans enjoying the games, which has them coming for more.

Leisure Movement in Sports
:

As seen from my analysis, leisure plays a big role in the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, whether it be watching the athletic events or playing for them. Assistant Ticketing manager, Allison Myles put it best when sharing her thought on what leisure meant in the sports field. Ms Myles said, “Leisure is time where you have a choice of what you want to, specifically with the sports business, it is an opportunity to use Athletics as a means of leisure.

Synopsis:

From my experience talking to Ms. Myles and researching DIA, I was able to learn more about how the athletics department is able to influence leisure. From the athletic events they organize, to providing students with the opportunity to get involved with sports, DIA has a large role for leisure here at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The opportunity to work in this business comes with great perks as well as negatives. The advantages with working in the sports field is it provides you with the opportunity to be active in a great work environment, as well as the opportunity to meet and network with people. A large part of this business is networking with your fellow peers, which is the only way to get your foot in the door. That in turn brings us to the negative about working with this particular agency. Since there is such a high demand for this job, the business truly is about who you know. DIA fits in with the leisure delivery system because it offers a wide variety of services that would be considered leisure. Being able to enjoy your free time and do something productive with it, is what DIA is all about. My overall experience with DIA was truly a wonderful one, and in terms of leisure, it doesn’t get better then what DIA can offer to the public.

Leisure Delivery System: Scott Kowalski

Introduction:

The agency I deiced to visit was the ARC which stands for Activities and Recreation Center. The ARC opened in august of 2009 after starting construction in March of 2006. The ARC is part of the campus recreation center at the University of Illinois. The ARC was build in order to help the campus achieve the university’s mission community enrichment.

Background:

The ARC is one of the many centers that the campus recreation runs here at the University of Illinois. The center is open to all but there is a membership fee which in included in all undergraduates’ tuition. The facility is located on the south part of the campus next to Memorial Stadium.

The facility is there for many reasons they provide wellness workshops, activities such as basketball or badminton, rock climbing, and a massive gym for both strength training and cardiovascular exercise. Basically, the ARC is just filled with many leisure activities

Employment:

There are many employment opportunities I found from speaking to one of the workers. Most students that start working there start off as a facility assistant. These workers are CPR certified and are the one you will see when you first get there swiping an i-card. From facilities manager there are many different ways to move up.

Current Trends:

Some of the current trends happening from what I asked are swimming which is because of the warm weather we are currently having. This tends to happen after the beginning of fall semester and the end of spring. From what I could find out there is not many issues effecting the ARC at the moment.

The ARC and Leisure:

From going to the ARC and talking to an employee I found that the ARC likes to provide leisure in many ways. They have many activities that can be done that are fun such as rock climbing or even a camping trip which is planned. Also, individuals can go to the ARC to escape the stress of class and get in a nice workout.

Synopsis:

The ARC is much more then just a gym i found it to be a place of wellness. They have classes within the ARC at the wellness center where you can learn things to make yourself healthier in many ways such as making a budget or making a healthy meal on a budget. It is also a great place to go and get a healthy snack at the Courtside Café which is on the main level at the ARC. If you feel like playing a game of basketball with your friends that's not a problem just go the member services desk where you can rent a basketball out. I think that working at the ARC is a great start if you like to get into recreation. The ARC provides many opportunities from life guards to costumer service assistance. Overall, I think the ARC is not only a great place to go when seeking leisure but is a great place to work when wanting to get involved in recreation.
